TCS (Thermoelectric Conversion Systems Ltd.) pioneers high-performance, zero-emission thermoelectric heat pumps and cooling solutions, driving decarbonisation from its base near Glasgow.

What we do

TCS (Thermoelectric Conversion Systems Ltd.) designs and manufactures high-performance, zero-emission thermoelectric systems for heating and cooling. Our innovative solid-state technology offers scalable solutions from watts to kilowatts for domestic, commercial, and industrial applications. A key product is our "Hummingbird" thermoelectric heat pump. This unit is exceptionally compact and lightweight (around 5kg per kWth), achieving a very high Coefficient of Performance (CoP), reportedly exceeding 10 in some applications. The Hummingbird is fully reversible for heating or cooling, operates silently without refrigerants, and boasts a wide operating temperature range (below -30°C to over +70°C). Its low start-up current means a 5kW system can run from a standard 13A plug, and it's optimised for 12V, 24V, or 48V DC power, making it ideal for integration with PV systems and battery storage. The Hummingbird's reliability is underscored by a Mean Time To Failure projected beyond 30 years.

What we can help you with

Heating and cooling systems are often bulky, noisy, carbon-intensive, and reliant on refrigerants or high-power grid connections. This limits their use in off-grid, retrofit, or space-constrained settings—particularly in sectors like social housing or remote infrastructure where silent, efficient, low-maintenance systems are essential.

Our solution

TCS has developed the Hummingbird, a solid-state thermoelectric heat pump that is compact, silent, and refrigerant-free. It delivers heating and cooling from a single unit with a CoP exceeding 10 in some scenarios. Fully reversible and DC-optimised, it integrates easily with solar PV and batteries, offering long life and ultra-low operating costs.

Benefits of working with us

Ultra-high efficiency and zero maintenance enable payback in under 5 years, with 30+ year lifespan and major savings on fuel, servicing, and grid infrastructure.

Case study

We are conducting user trials in late 2025, prior to this in 2024, TCS partnered with a rural social housing developer, Kionalli to trial the Hummingbird in off-grid homes in North Aberdeenshire. Each 5kW unit was powered via rooftop PV and battery, reducing residents’ heating bills by over 70% and eliminating fossil fuel use. Installation was plug-and-play, requiring no major electrical upgrades.
