A DIN webinar, in partnership with MHCLG's PropTech Support Programme

Planning delays remain one of the biggest barriers to delivering new homes. From negotiating Section 106 agreements to managing consultation, data, evidence and approvals, housing providers and local authorities often face lengthy and resource-intensive processes that slow delivery and increase costs.

At the same time, a new generation of PropTech innovators is developing tools designed to make planning systems more transparent, efficient and responsive. The MHCLG PropTech Innovation Fund supports this work, and DIN recently contributed as a panel judge for Round 6.

In this joint webinar between DIN and MHCLG’s PropTech Support Programme, we bring together housing providers, local authorities and innovators to explore whether technology can genuinely help tackle some of the most persistent challenges in the planning process.

The session will examine emerging approaches being piloted through the government’s PropTech programme, focusing on solutions aimed at improving planning efficiency, supporting better decision-making and accelerating the delivery of affordable housing.

Rather than simply showcasing technology, we will focus on the practical questions that matter most and explore where these solutions could make a real difference.

  • Where are the biggest delays in planning and Section 106 processes?
  • What are housing providers and councils struggling with today?
  • Which PropTech solutions show genuine promise?
  • What needs to happen for successful pilots to become mainstream practice?
  • How can innovation be embedded rather than ending when pilot funding runs out?
Join local authority leaders, housing association development professionals, policy experts and PropTech innovators for a discussion about what it will take to move from successful pilots to real-world impact.

What to expect

We’ll begin with an introduction to Round 6 of the MHCLG PropTech Support Programme.

A local authority planning leader and a housing association development director will then take part in a fireside conversation exploring what is really causing delays in the planning process and what “good” could look like in practice.

From there, we’ll hear from three live PropTech Round 6 pilots in a rapid-fire innovation spotlight, covering the problem each is trying to solve, what is being tested, lessons emerging so far and where the approach could have wider application across housing.

We’ll close with a panel bringing together local authority, housing association, MHCLG and innovator perspectives to explore adoption, evidence, procurement routes and what happens when pilot funding comes to an end.

There will also be time for audience Q&A, alongside details of our planned in-person showcase in January/February.
