Alan Smith – CEO, Believe Housing

Alan Smith is the Chief Executive of Believe Housing, one of the largest housing associations in North East England, managing over 18,000 homes. With nearly four decades of experience, Alan is passionate about innovation, embracing change, and challenging traditional approaches to create lasting impact.

A qualified accountant and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy, Alan has been with Believe Housing since its inception in 2015. Under his leadership, the organisation has made bold investments in home improvements and energy efficiency, transforming communities. Alan also serves on the board of the Northern Housing Consortium, championing progressive ideas to deliver a "life without barriers" for customers, communities, and colleagues.

Aileen Evans – Former CEO, Grand Union Housing Group

Aileen Evans is the former Chief Executive of Grand Union Housing Group, where she led the organisation in providing affordable homes and innovative community services across the Midlands. With over 25 years of experience in social housing, Aileen is a passionate advocate for mental health, inclusion, and doing things differently to create meaningful change.

During her tenure, Aileen championed bold initiatives to enhance sustainability, tenant engagement, and wellbeing. As a qualified coach and mental health first-aider, she brought a people-focused approach to leadership, embedding a culture of care and innovation. Aileen also served as President of the Chartered Institute of Housing, using her platform to promote mental health awareness across the sector. Her commitment to progressive leadership continues to inspire positive change in housing and beyond.
