24-Hour Energy Hackathon

Problem Statement:

In April 2022, energy prices increased by 54% and households will face an average energy bill of nearly £2,000, along with general inflation forecast to hit 8%, pushing up many costs including the price of a food shop. Citizens Advice found that nearly half (47%) of people on low incomes predict they will have to fall behind on essential bills or cut back on spending, with those on prepayment meters particularly hard hit by spiralling costs.

What more can housing organisations do to:

  • reduce the amount of energy their residents need to keep their homes warm and healthy places in which to live
  • reduce the cost of the energy they consume or used in communal areas
  • gain knowledge about which residents and which properties face the biggest energy challenges and
  • ensure every resident knows what support is available and how to access it?

Hack participants (1-3 per organisation) attending are encouraged to bring one Executive/ Director sponsor to the event alongside an operational lead/ project manager that is most affected by the problem being presented. DIN and Switchee along with other experts providing context and challenge, will work in collaboration with the Housing Providers across 2 days to come up with solutions for solving the problem statement.

The hackathon will have a focus on data and including property data collected from Switchee.
